Anita McLean
Psychologist
Welcome.
I offer over 13 years of experience as a psychologist who is developmentally trained and experienced in the assessment and treatment of trauma and its impact on the individual, couples and parents.
My experience has included working with individuals (adults, adolescents and children), couples and families experiencing trauma-based difficulties including PTSD, developmental and complex PTSD, relationship issues, living with chronic health conditions, anxiety, depression, adjusting to major life transitions, grief & loss, self-harm, ADHD, high levels of stress, supporting parents with a range of concerns beginning from thinking about conception, conception, pregnancy, postpartum and parenting children and adolescents.
My therapeutic approach is compassionate in essence. It is collaborative and holistic in considering the biological, psychological, social, emotional and spiritual facets of mental health and wellness.
Treatment planning is informed by assessment and therapeutic treatment is informed by the following models: Attachment, EMDR, Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy (PIT); Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT); Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Mindfulness, Person-Centred and Trauma Informed practices.
With Couples, my approach is based on the Gottman’s Method of Couples Therapy, for which I have completed Level 2 training.
With Parents, I am informed by attachment and positive behaviour principles. I am a registered facilitator of the Circle of Security Parenting Program and work with individual parents and small groups of parents to facilitate the Circle of Security Parenting Program, which is based on over 40 years of attachment parent-child relationship research.
